The “Vogelkoje” (bird berth) in the north of Kampen was originally created to tempt ducks to take a break during migration so that they could then be caught and killed. Today it is a biotope with very varied plant life, and is an official Sylt nature reserve. Two houses have been built in the style of historic originals, each housing an exhibition; one about the history of the Vogelkoje, and one about the bird life on Sylt. There is an informative nature trail running through the preserve.
