The oldest part of town is to be found behind the church, and boast many characteristic small houses. Højer Mill is one of the oldest Dutch style windmills in northern Europe, built in 1857. The mill houses a milling museum. From the church you should take a detour to Emmerlex Klev (cliff). From here you will have a unique view over the flood plain and the Wattenmeer mudflats as far as the islands of Sylt and Rømø.
