The Højer Sluices were built at the same time as the Højer Dyke in 1861, so that ships with masts could sail through. From the crest of the dyke you have an impressive view of the unique landscape that has been formed by human hand over centuries. In front of the sluices there is a so-called storm pillar, which shows the highest water levels up to 1981.
