Be transported back to life on Sylt in the 18th century. In the “Altfriesisches Haus” in Keitum you get a realistic insight into how people lived at that time. The building was erected as a farmhouse in 1739 and in the 19th century this was the home of the Sylt chronicler Hansen. Since 1907 the building has served as a museum for historic Sylt living culture. Typically these used to combine living space and stabling under one roof, separated by just a narrow corridor. If you want to find out more about the island’s history we would recommend a visit to the Sylter Heimatmuseum (local history museum). Located in a former sea captain’s house, here you will be able to get a lot of background information about the life of the islanders in times gone by.
